Summer Reading Kickoff Program

The Curious Creature Summer has begun! Join the adventure — pick up your Summer Reading Guide and start tracking. Every age, every reader, all summer long. Once you complete your challenge, visit your local library to pick up your prize starting July 1.

All are welcome to enjoy the musical talents of our special guest, Seattle Steel Pan Project (SSPP). SSPP has a professional performance ensemble featuring some of the most seasoned steel pan performers and musicians in the Pacific Northwest. The steel pan, also known as the steel drum, is the most modern acoustic musical instrument to find its way to the world stage. Originally from the Caribbean nation of Trinidad & Tobago, it was ingeniously crafted in the 1940’s out of discarded 55-gallon oil drums. Today it can be found throughout the world in ensembles ranging from a few players to a full orchestra of 100 or more.
